Swimming Pools
The Springfield City Code requires the following of any pool with a depth of 18 inches or greater:
"Every pool...shall be completely surrounded by a fence or wall not less than six feet (6') in height...A dwelling or accessory building may be used as part of such enclosure...all gates and doors opening through such enclosure shall be equipped with a self-closing and self-latching device located at least forty-five inches (45") above grade level or keeping the gate or door securely closed at all times...the sides of the pool shall be located at least four feet (4') from any lotline...all reasonable precautions shall be taken to protect the users and bathers in private pools from injury or accident..."

To obtain a building permit for a pool, please submit the following information to City Hall:
- Building permit application form.
- Fixture fee application form (HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical).
- Three complete sets of building plans showing the filter type, piping size and layouts, waste disposal method, water source supply, electrical/pump information.
- Three plot plans of the property showing the property lines, the location of the proposed pool with distances from the pool apron to all property lines and existing structures (i.e. house, garage, shed, etc.), square footage of the pool. The plot plan should also show the approximate location of all structures on the property (i.e. house, garage, shed, etc.) with square footage information on all existing structures.
